Consumer legislation receives first reading

The Consumer Protection Bill aims to promote and protect consumer rights.

A Consumer Protection Bill had its first reading at a meeting of the House of Assembly on  Jan. 12.

The bill is based on consumer protection legislation prepared by the CARICOM Secretariat, and aims to promote and protect consumer rights in relation to the supply of goods, the provision of services, and the health and safety of consumers. It also makes provisions for a Consumer Protection Board and the receipt and investigation of complaints.
