The modernization of the Inland Revenue Department will complement the changes in the tax system.

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is currently undertaking a major reform initiative.

According to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, the modernization of the department will complement the changes in the tax system.

“Governments are seeking ways to improve operations while increasing transparency and accountability within their departments and agencies," he said. "The organization structure of the tax administration is a key component in these efforts.”

Dr. Anthony said there are four main objectives of the IRD’s administrative reform program. To enhance taxpayer service and compliance and re-organize the IRD along functional lines; to strengthen planning, design and monitoring functions; to segment the taxpayer population and establish separate large, medium, small and micro taxpayer sections to focus on the peculiar needs of each segment; and to integrate the administration of VAT into the mainstream operations of the Inland Revenue Department.

According to the Prime Minister, these objectives, once met will significantly benefit taxpayers by reducing duplication, simplifying processes for the taxpayer and the administration, enhancing performance management and data integrity, increasing compliance, and improving resource management.
